2014 Kavli Science Video Contest

The USA Science & Engineering Festival, in association with the Kavli Foundation, is launching the “Science in Fiction” video contest. The theme of the challenge is inspired by the Science & Entertainment Exchange, a program of the National Academy of Sciences. Using popular movies, TV shows, and video games, students will investigate cutting edge advances in science and engineering to explore how science fictional scenes could be realized using current and developing technologies.

School Gardens: Planting the Seeds for Fresh Learning

The Whole Kids Foundation has teamed up with FoodCorps to create the School Garden Grant Program, which awards $2,000 to fund school gardening projects. All types of school gardens are encouraged to apply and gardens can come from anywhere llike rural or urban settings, or the windowsill or the playground.

W.K. Kellogg Foundation - Family Engagement Proposal

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation is giving $5 million of funding to organizations that have developed a proposal that addresses the obstacles faced by low-income families.

Proposals that emphasize family engagement, the shared responsibility of families, schools and communities for student learning and achievement, in education are highly encouraged to apply.

Selected applicants will be asked to provide a full proposal and if chosen, the selected organizatiion can receive up to $500,000 in funding for up to three years.

Spirit of Innovation Challenge

The Conrad Foundation's, Spirit of Innovation Challenge encourages teams of 2-5 members , ages 13-18 to apply science, technology, engineering , or mathematics skills in collaboration with creativity and entrepreneuship to develop a product or service to increase global sustainability in one of four catagories.

The top 5 teams in each category will be invited to attend the Innovation Summit from April 5-8, 2013 hosted at the NASA Johnson Space Centerwhere they will present their product or service and compete to to win over $40,000 in grants and commercialization opportunities.

Autodesk 123D Design Challenge

Enter the Autodesk® 123D® Design Challenge and design the next amazing product or innovate an exisiting product to win a MakerBot® Replicator® 2 Desktop 3D printer, a 123D Design Premium Account Membership, a free 3D print of your design, e-patches, and the right to have your work showcased on the Autodesk® Facebook and Community pages. Participants must be 13-18 years old, must use the (free) Autodesk® 123D® Design app and must upload the project on Instructables by October 21, 2013.

After School Innovator Awards

The Afterschool Alliance and MetLife Foundation are seeking innovative and potentially lesser known afterschool programs that excel at engaging middle schoolers. Nominate an afterschool program for a chance to win one of five $10,000 MetLife Foundation Afterschool Innovator Awards. Vernier/NSTA Technology Award

STEM Impact Award 2013

The Afterschool Alliance and the Noyce Foundation are awarding exceptional afterschool STEM programs with one of two $10,000 Impact Awards. To be eligible, the program applying must clearly demonstrate that it has a strong positive impact on its participants and can serve as a model program for other afterschool STEM programs. Along with the cash award, the winning programs will have considerable recognition nationwide.
