Readiness and Needs Assessment

The purpose of this Readiness and Needs Assessment is to (1) collect data on existing STEM learning opportunities and assets, (2) identify the needs of your OST program and key stakeholders, and (3) to identify potential elements of, and supports needed in the creation and implementation of a STEM program plan.

Program Planning Tool (PPT)

The purpose of this STEM Program Planning Tool is to take the information learned through the Readiness and Needs Assessment and apply it to the creation of a comprehensive STEM Program Plan. A STEM Program Plan will meet the needs of multiple stakeholders while achieving the desired outcomes the Power of Discovery: STEM2 initiative. Together you, the California AfterSchool Network and the California STEM Learning Network are working locally and statewide to help California OST programs reach their true potential, and increase program quality through the lens of STEM.

There are currently several assessment tools available to help expanded learning programs assess and improve program quality.

Dimensions of Success Program Planning Tool

The DoS Program Planning Tool or DoS PPT is a new tool being developed by PEAR for practitioners in the field to use as they prepare staff to lead STEM activities. The DoS PPT aligns with the DoS observation tool, and focuses on how facilitators can prepare activities and prepare a teaching strategy that will allow them to reach high quality on all twelve dimensions.
