California Standards

California has a variety of standards & standard areas & many of them have strong linkages to STEM. The standards of Common Core State in conjunction with the Next Generation Science outline standards for English, Language Arts, Mathematics, & Word Design. The Career Technical Education Model Curriculum standards and framework bolster California's standards-based education system by incorporating cutting-edge knowledge about career options, technology, & skills required for success in adult life.

Currently, California is using content standards that were specifically designed to encourage the highest achievement of every student, by defining the knowledge, concepts, and skills that students should acquire at each grade level. Access all the California standards here.

Common Core State Standards for California

California has recently adopted the Common Core State Standards to replace the content stardards that are currently being taught in the core instructional day. The California Department of Education provides a brief description on the standards below:

Next Generation Science Standards

Through a collaborative effort led by 26 states and 41-member writing team, a final version of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) is now available.  The standards are based on the Framework for K-12 Science Education from the National Research Council (NRC), which centers around three core dimensions:
