Dimensions of Success Planning Tool

The DoS Program Planning Tool or DoS PPT is a new tool being developed by PEAR for practitioners in the field to use as they prepare staff to lead STEM activities. The DoS PPT aligns with the DoS observation tool, and focuses on how facilitators can prepare activities and prepare a teaching strategy that will allow them to reach high quality on all twelve dimensions. The DoS PPT is available in its first beta version before another round of revisions.

Click2Science Professional Development Program

Check out the Click2Science Professional Development Resource which teaches after school staff how to integrate STEM into out-of-school time curriculum. This great resource outlines 20 “Skills to Make STEM Click” which target professional development to improve STEM learning experiences for youth. Additionally, the resource includes training and coaching videos for frontline staff. The resource program is completely free, but registration is required.

Pilot Engineering Adventures Middle School (and Upper Elementary) Modules

Engineering Adventures and Engineering Everywhere Curriculum has been developed specifically for expanded learning environments by the Boston Museum of Science. As  many of you heard during our December Committee meeting, they are seeking expanded learning programs and sites to pilot test their three new out-of-school time engineering units outlined below. Sites chosen to pilot the units receive educator guides, all materials necessary for children to complete the activities, and an educator stipend.

Sally Ride STEM Central

Sally Ride Science’s STEM Central is a free, open source website consisting of instructional STEM resources. Resources include PowerPoints, videos, and lessons  in STEM related subjects and are each personally reviewed by educators. And if that isn’t enough, starting November 1, 2013, educators can submit their own links, ratings, and reviews to STEM Central.

2013 California Science Education Conference

Registration is now open for the annual California Science Education Conference, held in Palm Springs from October 25-27,2013. The conference offers over 175 one hour workshops, all focus speakers, special programming strands on STEM education, Common Core State Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards and more.

Join us at the Techbridge Summer Institute in Oakland, CA July 31- August 2, 2013.

The Techbridge Summer Institute in Oakland, CA focuses on the development of STEM educators with 3-day, hands on training curriculum applicable for grades 5-12. With the help of Techbridge's experienced staff, the Summer Institute offers strategies for engaging and recruting girls into STEM programs.. The program runs from July 31, 2013 to August 1, 2013.
