Zero Robotics

Zero Robotics is a computer programming competition where the robots are SPHERES (Synchronized Position Hold Engage and Reorient Experimental Satellites) inside the International Space Station. The competition starts online via a website hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where teams program the SPHERES to solve an annual challenge.

Students in Regular Day and After School Programs at Lymon Gilmore Middle School Participate in Large Scientific Project

On May 31, 2014, regular day and and after school programs at Lymon Gilmore Middle School hosted the Second Annual Flight Day in celebration of Gilmore's first successful airplane flight by setting up many interactive activity booths educating students about the science and engineering behind the principles of flight. This event brought together an entire community of educators and even included a fly over by 15 local pilots.

STEM-tastic After School Activities in Region 3 is an After School Region 3 blog post about the Grass Valley School District gathering at Lyman Gilmore Middle School (over 1,000 students) on May 21, 2014 to celebrate the 112th anniversary of Lyman Gilmore's supposed maiden flight. "The regular day staff, the after school staff, local businesses, and the community came together to put on the Second Annual Flight Day.

Dimensions of Success Planning Tool

The DoS Program Planning Tool or DoS PPT is a new tool being developed by PEAR for practitioners in the field to use as they prepare staff to lead STEM activities. The DoS PPT aligns with the DoS observation tool, and focuses on how facilitators can prepare activities and prepare a teaching strategy that will allow them to reach high quality on all twelve dimensions. The DoS PPT is available in its first beta version before another round of revisions.

Federal Junior Duck Stamp Program

The Federal Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Program (JDS) is a dynamic arts and science curriculum that teaches wetlands and waterfowl conservation to students in kindergarten through high school. The program incorporates scientific and wildlife management principles into a visual arts curriculum, with participants completing a JDS design as their visual “term paper."
