How Harvey Mudd Transformed Its Computer Science Program – And Nearly Closed Its Gender Gap

Under the direction of Dr. Maria Klawe, Harvey Mudd College (HMC) increased the percentage of female computer science majors from 10% in 2006 to an astounding 48% this year. By revamping HMC’s introductory CS course to use python, a language used in the industry, and assigning homework problems applicable to the real world,  HMC showed women that not only is computer science fun, but it is also a growing industry.
