Description: AfterSchool KidzScience includes twelve kits targeted to grades 3-5 and designed for use specifically in an out-of-school setting. There are four kits for each topic—life science (Beach Science, Colors in Nature, Exploring Habitats, and Predators and Prey), physical science (Bubbles, Falling and Flying, Magnets, and Oobleck), and green science (Alternative Energy, Fresh Water, Food from Plants, and Waste Not). Each kit includes four sessions that can be done in any order for maximum flexibility, although there is an intended sequence. Instructions and all materials are included in each kit. Refill kits are available for separate purchase to replenish any consumable materials, so the kits can be used multiple times. Sessions take approximately 45 minutes to complete, and are divided up into three stages: Engage, Explore, and Make Sense. If each kit were purchased, they would take about 9 hours total to complete.

The kits are designed to be used by non-science experts and include all instructions necessary. Professional development workshops are available through the GEMS center at the Lawrence Hall of Science. Workshops are offered regularly or can be scheduled individually; contact GEMS or see their website for pricing information and scheduling. Video clips and podcasts demonstrating the curriculum are also offered free online.
